Savanna Times Theater

This cherished community landmark has a rich history. Constructed in 1941, at 222 Main, by August and James Marchesi, it showed its first 1 ½ hour length black and white film, “The Wife Takes a Flyer” on July 28, 1942.  Later, the theater was sold to Robert Shrake & Raymond Hoy who re-opened it on Christmas Day, with the colored film, “The Thrill of it All” starring Doris Day and James Garner.

Dennis and Julane Bowman purchased the theater in May of 1979, and soon turned it into a twin theater, opening with the hit films: “The Muppet Movie” and “Starting Over”. The Bowman’s hired its first manager for the new operation, Konrad Radke. The current owners are Lars & Kathy Colgan.

In 2016, Ann Burch, a theater patron, posted this on the theater’s website:  “The Times Theater in Savanna has been renovated nicely and always has two new releases showing. We saw “The Force Awakens” on the night of its national premier, at $5 per ticket…it is Carroll County’s best kept secret!”
