About Us

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world...Margaret Mead

In 2008 a small group of volunteers began the renovation and construction of the Savanna Museum & Cultural Center.
By 2010, than 50 volunteers and over 8000 volunteer hours led to the receipt of the Illinois Governor's Hometown Award
In 2011 the museum opened its doors to the public with the permanent exhibits of the Civil War Collection, Model Railroad and Wayne King Room.
In 2021, after a decade of community events and activities, a second round of renovation led to a Grand Re-Opening with the addition of an exhibit honoring Helen Scott Hay, famous for her Red Cross work at the turn of the 20th century
