Savanna Public Library
A sneak-peek preview into the history of the library reveals that it opened its doors to book lovers and knowledge seekers on May 27, 1896. Thanks to the foresight of Alice Bowen, one of Savanna's first settlers, a letter was sent to businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, making an appeal for funds, to build a new library.
Mr. and Mrs. Carnegie, from 1883 to 1929, helped financially support the establishment of libraries all throughout the United States. According to them, "What is best gift which can be given to a community? A free public, library." Savanna Public Library is proud to be one of those 2,000 Carnegie libraries.
